YPF - The Harry Potter Edition

Ok, so this post has absolutely nothing to actually do with Harry Potter, but it's THAT day, so I figured I might as well call it that. :) I'm posting this a little early, and then I am putting myself under a media embargo until after I finish the book. I don't want to be accidentally spoiled after all these years. So, the pr0n. This week, we keep with the STR trend, with the 2nd shipment for the Rockin' Sock Club (Yes, I've already got shipment #3. I'm behind on posting pr0n.) - Silkie Socks that Rock in "Walking on the Wild Tide". These came with a funky fishnet-like pattern, and I decided to order a second hank of the yarn so that I can make them as knee-highs. Signing off until Saturday!

I'd Better Get This Up Fast

Or I'll be in trouble with YPF BossLady. ;) (Of course, she's had enough trouble fighting with Lenny the Tech-Lack-of-Support Guy that she might not notice...) I've got a lot to catch up on, but it's been one of those weeks, so I'll try to get to it this weekend. Until then, pr0n! I ordered some Socks That Rock from Blue Moon a few weeks ago, so you'll see them in the next few weeks. Today, we have Lightweight in "Knitty Rocks", which pretty much sums up my opinion, so I had to get this color. :D Happy weekend, all!

MDS&W Pr0n - Week 7

The last of the STR from Sheep and Wool - Mediumweight in Seastone And yes, I am aware that three of the five colors I bought were blues and greens (Plus the green Footzey Foo heavyweight I used for my Red Dwarf Socks). It was slightly less obvious when I was also picking up pinks and purples for Roxy, but what can I say? I am drawn to them. :D I was hoping to be able to post a triumphant FO picture of my Molly sleeves today, but there was an Incident. I cruised through the second sleeve on Wednesday and managed to actually finish it. I slipped it over my arm to admire it (Pride goeth before...), and I looked at the cuff. Huh. That's really, really big. Way bigger than I expected. I took it off, and compared it to the first sleeve. It was SIGNIFICANTLY wider. I stared at it. I looked at every pattern row, trying to figure out where I went off-pattern. Finally, I found it. Do you see where the arrows are pointing? I anchored those light green loops in the wrong spot on sleeve #2, which gave me 12 of them, instead of 8. (...aaaaaand there's the fall). So, yeah. The ENTIRE cuff was half again as big as it was supposed to be. I had to rip the entire thing out, back to that green row, to fix it. (17 rows, if you are wondering.) On the upside, now that the rows are 2/3 the length they were, they move a LOT faster. I'm back up to the orange row just before the pink I was on when this picture was taken. With any luck (and less foul-ups), I'll have a FO by the end of the weekend. Have a good one, all!

MDS&W Pr0n - Week 4

Firstly, thank you all for your good wishes and "ooh"ing at the winder and Zaphod. And Kris feels like a total rockstar hubby, as he should. And now we reach the goodies from The Fold - the Socks That Rock. This week, STR Light Mediumweight in "Iolite" (Not sure why I thought Lighweight at first. My bad.): Oh, and although I missed the inaugural WIP Wednesday (brainchild of Cristi, of course), I'll be in on it next week. I've been entering my projects into Ravelry, so it's sort of a two-birds-with-one-stone thing. That, and maybe putting it out there will push me to finish a couple of stragglers. :D

MDS&W Pr0n - Week 3

As we were in the barn with the shirts and bags and whatnot, we stopped by the Ernsts' booth to drool at the glass knitting needles (So... pretty!!), and we found this: Optim roving. It's amazing stuff - it's wool, but is treated so that it is almost as fine a fiber as cashmere. It's so ridiculously soft. There was a reason that Cristi wore some of it around her neck all day, and kept petting it. I'll probably be dyeing it before I spin it, but for now I'll just keep petting it. It's SO soft... And after reading that "Seven weird things" meme for the past few weeks and managing to avoid being tagged, CostumeChick got me. *sigh* So, seven weird things about me: 1. I was a very picky eater as a child, but have managed to overcome that with a very few exceptions. I still cannot eat mushrooms, raw tomatoes, or shrimp. The weird thing about that is that ALL of those are texture issues - the flavor doesn't actually bother me at all. 2. I also can't stand mustard. I can taste the tiniest bit of mustard in just about anything. *shudder* That one IS a flavor thing. 3. I keep my cds and dvds in alphabetical order (Cds are also broken down into categories), and if one is missing, I can generally remember them well enough to know which one it is. 4. My nose does this weird clicky thing where the cartilage at the tip will actually pop and stay off-center. Kris jokes that I'm the first person he has met that can literally get her nose "out of joint". 5. I am painfully shy when I first meet people and have a lot of trouble approaching someone to start a conversation. No one who knows me believes that, though, because once I get to know you I just don't shut up. :D 6. When I eat anything that is in multicolored pieces (M&M's, Skittles, etc.), I always eat them so that I have equal numbers left of each color. Always. 7. I have a weird relationship with memes. Part of me hates them, and a part of me really wants to be tagged because it makes me feel like someone wants to hear what I have to say. Sick, I know. I'm not sure what the deal is there...

MDS&W Pr0n - Week 2

So, while we were making a run back to the car with load #1 of stuff on Saturday of MDS&W, we paused at the Brooks Farm booth. Cristi was eyeing the sock yarns, Jas was schmoozing with a woman she was talking to about carrying her yarns, and as I was looking at the baskets, I spotted this: The loveliest tonal greens, in a beautiful wool and silk yarn with fabulous sheen, and soft as can be - Brooks Farm Four Play. I reached under the rack (it was in a basket on the opposite side), and snagged one. Jas started laughing as soon as she saw my hand - she said when she saw the hand reaching for the green, she knew it was mine. Apparently I'm predictable on that front. So, I have 4 hanks of this (just over 1000 yards). I was thinking about a Clapotis, but since I'm already making a ribbon one (you'll see that yarn soon enough), I'm thinking maybe something else. If you have any suggestions, speak up!

MDS&W Pr0n - Week 1

So, I thought about posting the loot from MDS&W in the order it was purchased, but I decided instead to just post what I'm inspired to each week. :) This week's subject was purchased from Mohair in Motion, who were in one of the tents on the entrance end of the fairgrounds. We were walking along, and Cristi saw the sign for their tent, sighed and said "No point in my even going in there." (She has mohair issues.) We were going to just walk past, but I glanced over and something bright caught my eye among the mellow-colored fluffiness of the mohair on their shelves. I walked over and picked it up, and it just had to come home with me. The bright rainbowy-ness, the shine of the fiber... it wanted to come home with me. So it did. 500 yards of 100% rayon in "Mardi Gras". I'm not sure what it will be yet, although I am leaning toward some sort of wrap or shawl. Luckily, she did tell me that if I ended up needing more once I decided what to do with this (it was the only skein there), she did have more back at home, and I could just email her to order some. Obviously, I shouldn't wait TOO long if I'm going to do that, but it's nice to have the option. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Green Pr0n

Thank you for the good wishes on overcoming my cold. It's definitely improving. Maybe tonight I'll be able to sleep without being propped up to prevent coughing. I definitely have my appetite back, too. This is the last of the pre-MDS&W pr0n I have stockpiled, so you'll have to wait until next week to start seeing the goodies from S&W. :D Sundara Yarns sock yarn in "Bird of Paradise" - Zonda swapped me this for some Cotton Ease for a blanket she is working on. It's from the Petals collection. I might have to keep an eye out and join next time, if this is an indication of how pretty her stuff is. Knit Picks CotLin in "Key Lime". This is going to be the Cables & O's Cardi from my new favorite knitting book- No Sheep for You. Mountain Colors 4/8's Wool in "Mountain Tango". I picked this up at Cloverhill when I went with Carrie and Maryanne. It will be socks, most likely. And a pile of Tahki Cotton Classic in a variety of (I can't believe I'm saying this) pinks and purples. This is going to be the Bacardi Cardigan from No Sheep for You. And yes, this counts as green pr0n. Why? Because the original sweater is in shades of green and yellow. :D And I have my very first FO from my S&W purchases to show you, as soon as Kris gets a picture of them. I finished up Cristi's new Red Dwarf Socks in some BMFA STR heavyweight in "Footsey Foo". I'd take the picture myself, but it's rather awkward to get a picture of your own feet. Happy Friday, all!

Ah, Silk Garden, how do I love thee... Color #243, which will be a Lady Eleanor shawl. And I did finish Tomato yesterday. I'm quite happy with it, including the minor tweaks I made to the pattern. FO pics a bit later, since I'm wearing it to MDS&W. Yes, Cristi and I decided to be complete dorks and wear them the same day. But hey, what are friends for, if not being complete dorks with? :) Happy Friday!

Cheap Pr0n

OK, not really cheap, per se, but at least on sale. I scored these at the Knit Happens sale a couple of weeks ago. Alchemy Silk Purse in Rust Red and Synchronicity in Foxglove: I have a FO or two to show you, but I need my photographer for that, and he's stuck at work until midnight tonight, so those will have to wait a bit. The loveliness that I picked up at the Twinkle Party with Annemarie 2 weeks ago. :) Twinkle Handknits Soft Chunky in "Haze" (Probably will be the Princess Capelet from Big City Knits.) And Twinkle Handknits Kid Mohair in "Dusty Rose" (Will be the Mohair Shrug from Big City Knits) Speaking of Annemarie, I saw her today at Barnes and Noble for our knitting group, and she is just CRANKING out the Tuxedo Sweater from Big City Knits. It is going to look awesome on her! I've got some new WIP and FO pics for you, but I think those will wait until later. I need my rest - I'm meeting Maryanne tomorrow (Friday) for the Stitch DC sale. :D (And yes, I know that I need help. Assuming I'm not actually beyond help at this point...) Happy Friday everyone!
